Situated along the banks of Lake Monona in Dane County, Wisconsin, the city of Monona is a small yet diverse city of about 8,000. Named after famous ecologist Aldo Leopold, the nature center was built as a place for people to reconnect with the outdoors and to learn about their natural surroundings.

A trip to Monona would not be complete without seeing the Indian Mounds located in the city. These unassuming, and seemingly natural, mounds are actually Indian burial grounds that offer an intimate look into Wisconsin's prehistoric past.
