About Mount Pleasant, TX
Founded in 1848, the town of Mount Pleasant, Texas is the largest city in Titus County with nearly 16,000 residents. Currently, the city lays claim to two unusual distinctions. In 1975, Mount Pleasant was the site of the very first Walmart store built in Texas. In 2006, Mount Pleasant claimed it was the home of the world’s tallest living horse, a Belgian horse named Radar.
Mount Pleasant is also home to two small lakes - Old City Lake and New City Lake. These lakes serve as gathering areas where locals can go fishing, have picnics or simply pass the time. The only time of year when the lakes are off limits is in July when the power boat races come to town for Quake on the Lake. Quake on the Lake also serves as a fund raiser with proceeds benefiting local non-profits.
The city is also the home of two other very popular local events. In late May and early June, residents can enjoy the Everything Texas Fest and the Mt. Pleasant Rodeo Association Rodeo. In late September, the Titus County Fair opens to the public.
