Round Rock, Texas began as a small settlement along the banks of Brushy Creek in Williamson County, Texas. The settlement was strategically established near a low point in the water that allowed people, wagons, and animals to cross the creek. The crossing was also marked by a large, flat, circular-shaped rock that was naturally positioned in the center of the creek. So prominent was this rock, that when it came time to officially name the settlement, the townspeople chose the name Round Rock. For most of its history, Round Rock existed as a sleepy bedroom community for its larger neighbor to the south, Austin, TX. That all changed in the mid-1990s when Dell Computers made Round Rock the site of its world headquarters. As expected, Dell’s arrival marked the beginning of a boom period for Round Rock, both economically and in population. Over time, this growth became so prominent that the city began to be recognized on a national level. In 2008, Money Magazine gave Round Rock the distinction of being the seventh best small city to live in. In 2010, CNN reported that Round Rock was the second fast-growing city in the United States. Round Rock is currently home to just under 100,000 residents.
